Personality: Mannerisms : Growing up as the princess and eventual 22nd Head of the Shihōin (one of the four great Noble Houses in the Soul Society) meant a life of ceremony and protocol from her earliest days. Because of this, she tends to be a mix of old nobility… and a complete and utter disregard for formality of any form outside of her duties (at least back when she was captain of the 2nd division. In the original translations, she refers to herself in the same manner that older men do in Japanese culture; yet when talking to humans or subordinates that she’s taken an interest in, she tries her hardest to get them to disregard her noble birth altogether.
While in cat form, however, her voice deepens to that of an older male and her mannerism shifts to match – her speech pattern is more formal and dignified.
Habits : She prefers to move about in her cat form – so much so that she often forgets the fact that once she changes form, she’s completely and utterly lacking even a stitch of clothes. She takes an absolute delight when this transformation happens in front of others, often going so far as to tease the other person (usually Ichigo) about getting in a peek while they can. This can also be seen in her fighting style – up close and personal, with hands and feet rather than her zanpakuto. Oh – as a former captain, she can use one with master-level skill, and was once the one that taught Sui Feng swordsmanship, but she’d rather face an opponent head on and take them down with her own feet and fists.
Interactions & Temperament : When things aren’t imminent doom and gloom, she’s completely unreserved – laid back and seemingly carefree, laughs loudly, talks loudly, and speaks bluntly. She doesn’t waste time with guile, appeasement, or empty reassurances. Instead, she’ll tell it exactly like it is, preferring direct honesty above all else no matter how good or bad that honesty hits the other person.
When things are more serious, she lets go of the laidback side of her persona and focuses in on the objective. These are also the times that she shows her own respect, her faith in the skills and abilities of her friends and subordinates, by trusting that they’re capable of handling any task she gives them - or if needs be, she won’t hesitate to give them a swift punch upside the head if they lose focus on the actual purpose for whatever it is their working towards. She might give them a playful tease to lighten the moment when they have a chance to rest, but she’s relentless in driving towards reaching whatever goal it is they need to get to in order to succeed.
Motivations : Protecting her friends, namely Kisuke, above all else. She places them above her own rank and status, above her own responsibilities and obligations. She’s also able to look at the broad picture and play to the endgame rather than the immediate situation. That’s the reason she saved not only Kisuke and Tessai, but also all of the captains and lieutenants that Aizen had experimented on rather than let them all take the fall as a part of Aizen’s schemes. In her own way, that’s how she does her best to protect not only Soul Society, but the world of the living as well.
Morality : Yoruichi acts and reacts based on what she’s determined is the right path – regardless of whether or not it coincides with the laws of the Soul Society. She does not accept orders at face value – if it looks wrong and smells wrong, it’s flat out wrong. Bottom line. She would rather act on her own to do what’s right, than carry out orders she knows is flawed.
Powers/Abilities: Feline Transformation: Yoruichi is unique among all of the soul reapers in that she can freely shapeshift into the form of a black cat. While in this form, she retains her ability to use and manipulate spiritual energy, however her strength is limited to that of a cat’s. While in cat form, her voice deepens to male registers so for those that do not know her normal form or only know her feline one, she is thought to be male.
Shunpo Master: While all seated soul reapers are capable of using shunpo to some degree, Yoruichi is considered to be the most proficient – so much so that even after a century outside of the Soul Society, she still retains the title "Flash Goddess" (瞬神, shunshin; literally "Flash Master"). Through this mastery, she’s also created her own technique:
Utsusemi (空蝉, Cast-Off Cicada Shell) – called the Way of Onmitsu, 3rd of the Shihō, which enables her to leave anywhere from one to a dozen or so tangible after-image behind.

Hakuda Master: As former Commander-in-Chief of the stealth forces, Yoruichi is one of the most accomplished hand-to-hand combatants in Soul Society – to the end that we’ve yet to see her even draw a zanpakuto, despite fighting high leveled traitorous soul reapers and espada. One of her favorite Hakuda techniques is Taketonbo (竹蜻蛉, Bamboo Dragonfly):, wherein she suddenly and violently flips an opponent upside down (she’s done this to opponents that were ten times her own size).
Another hakuda technique that she favors is Raiōken (雷王拳, Thunder King Fist). This technique involves a series of ultra-high-speed punches delivered using both arms with enough force to shatter bones.
Shunkō (瞬閧, Flash War Cry): An advanced technique which combines Hakuda with Kidō in order to surround her body with condensed spiritual preassure in the form of kido-based lightning. The technique is so dense that, once fully activated, it blows any cloth covering her upper arms, shoulders, and back away. Once activated, it can be controlled and fired at opponents from her body, usually by hands or feet, which create massive explosions.

Hanki (反鬼, Reverse Demon): This technique is used by Yoruichi during Shunkō. It nullifies an opponent's Kidō by hitting it with a Kidō of perfectly opposite speed and energy. The technique can neutralize an opponent's movements.
Expert Swordsman: While preferring to fight her opponents barehanded, during her days as a captain, Yoruichi showed herself to be a highly capable swords-woman. Despite this, we still have not seen either of her sword’s released forms as of yet.
Kidō Expert: As former captain of the 2nd Division and the Commander-in-Chief of the Onmitsukidō, Yoruichi is well-versed in kido spells. She has used mid to high-level binding and destruction spells with no incantation, and has a considerable knowledge of advanced protective barriers as well.
As the former Commander-in-Chief of the both the 2nd Squad and the stealth forces, Yoruichi is both a master assassin and strategist.
Immense Spiritual Power: As a former captain and head of a noble clan, Yoruichi boasts a larger than normal amount of spiritual energy, even for someone that is at captain-level.
Enhanced Strength: Despite her slender appearance, Yoruichi is quite strong in her Shinigami form – so much so that a concentrated blow from Yoruichi is powerful enough to destroy an entire city block.
Enhanced Endurance: Despite her own admission of being out of shape, Yoruichi is a very resilient warrior. Both when out of breath from prolonged running against another captain-level opponent and sustaining fractures from an Espada attack, Yoruichi was still able to fight effectively while showing no signs of weakening.
Keepsakes/Mementos: Her old captain’s cloak, the commander’s seat from when she’d been a proper captain within the soul society, and her favorite seat cushion from Urahara’s Shop in the world of the living.
A long, beige, bone wand-like artifact, with a small, white, bird-shaped skull, and four protrusions, similar to finger bones, extending from the back of the skull. By channeling spiritual pressure into the wand, it produces a band that curls around the user’s arm, along with a single bat-like wing manifests from the four bone protrusions, which acts as a one-handed hang-glider.
Tentōken (天踏絢, Heaven-Stepping Adornment): It is a brown mantle, with a large drawstring closure at the collar and a large brooch displaying the Shihōin Clan crest that enables one to both fly and hover in the air at will.
Anken (暗剣, Dark Blade): Small knives which Yoruichi hides in her boots.
Anti-Hierro Armor: A set of metal gloves and boots, invented by Kisuke Urahara, designed specifically to protect against Arrancar/Espada attacks during hand-to-hand combat.
Razor Wire: Razor-sharp wire which Yoruichi carries on her person. She can trap an opponent in a field of it almost instantaneously, and according to her, it can harm even the most powerful of they try to move through it.
Destructive Spheres: Somewhat small, light-colored spheres attached to each other by a string that Yoruichi throws at her opponent. According to her, once a sphere hits her opponent's body, a second sphere hitting that same area will destroy it.
Sample:
There’s a moment – a brief, hopeful moment – when Kisuke’s seals seem to do the trick and Aizen appears to burn brightly, that she almost believes they lucked out and it’d end swiftly. But the brightness fades and both Kisuke and Isshin move in for another attack. She watches as the kido chains loop around an ankle, a wrist, and readies to launch herself in the air.
One beat, two, and then she’s moving, putting the full force of her strike behind the kick aimed at the traitor’s head…
Only to have the armor on her left leg shatter from the sheer force of Aizen’s hogyoku-enhanced spiritual pressure alone.
Jumping back, she kneels at Kisuke’s side, golden eyes trained intently on the traitor as he begins to speak once more, sounding (if possible) even more condescending than before. "Quickly reveal your next trick. I will grind them each into dust, until the very last one has gone to waste. The number of methods you have crafted to defeat me is a testament to your power and effort. It is also the number of hopes you have. And as such, it is my duty to crush each and every one of them. So reveal your next trick Urahara Kisuke, Shionin Yoruichi, and Kurosaki Isshin."
They take a moment to regroup, to get ready for the next attack – and they do so in the easiest way they know how. They simply fall back on centuries-worth of habit: squabbling. Over the supposed shoddy craftsmanship of the armor Kisuke had especially designed for her use, whether it was her useage or his miscalculation that had caused the armor to shatter in the first place.
That is, until Aizen cuts into their banter once again. "…I see. The fact that your leg is intact would suggest it is something special indeed."
"What, you mean my leg, right?” Her own tone is light, teasingly playful as she waves her leg in the air, until Kisuke tweaks her nose and then they go right back to squabbling like children.
All it takes is a single step from Aizen to dispel the argument in favor of combat readiness once more.
"—here he comes. Can you do it?" Kisuke’s voice is low, the tone utterly somber.
Her own answer is just as somber, yet defiantly dismissive. "Wo do you think you’re talking to? It’s just a matter of striking him with anything other than my left leg."
The words barely have the chance to leave her mouth before Aizen is simply there, in her guard and close enough to smell the sweat on her neck if he wanted… or could, in that strange suit of his. Regardless, the armor on her right arm shatters and she’s forced to retreat to the skies with Kisuke and Isshin.
"…Are you alright?" There’s something akin to worry in his voice, and it’s enough to annoy her into snapping back, "I said it before – who do you think you’re talking to?!"
With that, she launches another attack, activates Shunko, and starts slamming away on the thing that was once a soul reaper. As she slips out, Kisuke and Isshin both dive in, hitting him with zanpakuto attacks one after the other… attacks that do little more than singe the edges of this monster.
What happens next… it happens in a blur.
One minute, her mind is racing, cycling from one plan to the next as each move is matched with far too much ease, and the next? Aizen counters with his own attack, augmented by the Hogyoku’s own force. She can feel the darkness rushing in to greet her, an old friend returning as the three are sent flying, there to land half sprawled over the edge of a building, a forty-foot drop.
Dead?!
Mindset: Because of her point of death, she will also think that this is some sort of trick of Aizen’s – possibly someplace between the world of the living and Hueco Mundo (the place he’d retreated to after defecting as a captain in Soul Society). Considering she’s a Shinigami, she’ll have a hard time believing that she’s ‘dead’ since, for them, that would mean reincarnating in the world of the living. As time goes on, she’ll agree that it might not be Aizen’s doing, but she’s not going to accept it as her actually being dead.
G̶̶l̨͡i̵͢t̷c͝͠h̕é͠s̷̷͡:
Wardrobe Malfunction?: She could get stuck in cat form – or conversely, she could randomly phase out of it and into her human form. Inconvenient, since shifting back into a human happens without clothes…
Weakness: Her physical strength is a defining feature of just who she is. As the former commander of the 2nd Division and the stealth forces, she has always relied far more on her physical strength in battle than any other method of fighting. To lose that strength would be unfathomable for her. Making her brittle as glass would be an absolutely terrifying experience.
Flash Step Failure: Yoruichi has long held the title of ‘flash master’ among the soul reapers – she can move faster than the normal eye can see, but if that were to fail and she could only move at high speeds – or reversed and she could only move exceptionally slowly – than it’d be either terrifying or frustrating in turn.
Gentei Reīn: All soul reapers ranked Lieutenant and above are automatically marked with a spiritual pressure limiter on their bodies (in the form of a spiritual tattoo) when they enter the world of the living. This mark reduces their spiritual pressure by 80% unless they get special authorization from the soul society to release – usually after the soul society has had time to place barriers around the area in order to minimize the effect they would have on living souls. If her limiter were to lift at random times, it could have a direct impact on those around them – anything from passing out from the direct exposure to such strong spiritual pressure to sudden weakness or hunger, to developing weak abilities of their own (planned out and with Mod approval if needs be).
